摘要:
经典重写是当代英语文学、乃至世界文学中的重要现象。文章聚焦《藻海无边》中安托瓦内特的性别化种族身份,解读作者吉恩·里斯如何在这部《简·爱》前传中通过多声部叙事结构重构安托瓦内特的性别化种族身份。文章通过解析安托瓦内特经历的认同障碍及其与其他作品人物,如简·爱及罗切斯特的身份比较,还原这个原本充满生机与活力的克里奥尔白人姑娘演变为疯女人伯莎的过程,揭示安托瓦内特的身份实质及其身份重构的意义。
Abstract:
The present paper probes into the gendered racial identity of Antoinette in Wide Sargasso Sea. It unravels Jean Rhys’ reconstruction of Antoinette’s identity through an examination of the novel’s polyphonic narrative structure. After a detailed analysis of the identity trouble undergone by Antoinette and a comparative study of the heroine and other characters in terms of identity in the novel, the paper reveals the nature of Antoinette’s identity and the underlying causes for her deplorable degradation into the madwoman Bertha.
